Taking the North further

Dear Stakeholder

It’s officially autumn, a tricky rather than treat season for the railway. We’ve set out some information in this edition on why leaves on the line cause problems for the railway and importantly what we are doing with our industry colleagues to minimise the delays and disruption that can occur at this time of the year. We’re also really busy with new trains, timetable and station development and new funding opportunities, details of which I hope you will find of interest.
Nova 3, the first of our new trains are currently undergoing the final stages of comprehensive testing required to be able to complete the regulatory approval process.

Once the testing and approval processes are completed we’ll be able to confirm when the first train will run in passenger service. We currently anticipate this will be before the end of this year with the roll-out of new trains onto more services in the new year, with the Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough route being converted to these new five carriage trains first.

Our new trains programme is still planned to deliver all our new trains by the end of 2019. The introduction of new trains also allows more of our existing fully modernised three carriage class 185 trains to become six carriage trains during the early part of 2019 as Nova 3 trains are introduced, enabling additional capacity for our North and South TransPennine routes to destinations that include Sheffield and Hull.

This is an exciting moment for the TransPennine Express franchise as we countdown towards the introduction of new trains and provision of additional seats across our network. We will keep you informed on this programme of work over the coming months, but in the meanwhile if you have any queries please let us know.
