As we approach this year's Chamber Annual Dinner Awards we caught up with some of last year's winners to find out what winning the award meant for their organisation.

Peel Land and Property, the team behind the £5 billion Liverpool Waters regeneration scheme, were the winners of our Responsible Business of the Year (Large). The award recognised Peel's innovative programme of engagement with the local community focussing on social, economic and health and well being benefits, as well as their initiatives to support a sustainable business environment.

Looking back at last year's award, Ian Pollitt, Assistant Project Director, Liverpool Waters, said "Winning the award really helped to spur us on, building on what we had already achieved and looking at other ways in which we could broaden our engagement with our local communities. Above all however, it was a fantastic way to recognise the achievements of the team as a whole - without their time and commitment none of this would have been possible."

The winner of the Responsible Business Award (Small and Medium) was Homecarers Liverpool, a family run business providing domiciliary care across the city region. Managing Director, Karen Caffrey, was particularly delighted to win the award not just on behalf of the company, but the home care sector as a whole.

"It is so important for employers, whatever the size of their business, to support staff to adopt a healthier lifestyle as well as offering the right training and development opportunities. This helps not only to build confidence and encourage them to be more aspirational but also to attract a more diverse workforce. The competition last year was very strong so we were really proud to be recognised by our business peers in this way."
